The Australian War Memorial combines a shrine, a world-class museum and an extensive archive. The Memorial's purpose is to commemorate the sacrifice of those Australians who have died in war or on operational service and those who have served our nation in times of conflict. They are recognised as a Veteran Employment Supporter via the Veteran Employment Commitment.

Since 1914 Australia has created more than 2,000,000 veterans. They served in the belief that their actions would protect the freedoms and rights we exercise here in Australia each and every day. All have been changed by their service and a significant minority carry physical and psychological traumas.

The Australian War Memorial tells this continuing story of Australia’s meaningful contribution towards a better world. Through the eyes of those who have served and those who are serving today, it reflects their sacrifice and inspires selflessness, caring and bravery. It is a place for all generations, of all Australians, to honour, to learn and to remember.
