The Prime Minister's National Veterans' Employment Program demonstrates the importance the Government places on raising awareness of the skills, values and experience veterans bring to the civilian workplace.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) invests heavily in its servicemen and women, and they have a broad range of skills and experience. Their skill sets, including proven leadership and problem-solving skills, are in strong demand and transfer readily to civilian employment.

Australian organisations of all sizes and across all industries have an opportunity to employ these skilled and capable individuals when they separate from the ADF. Making organisations more aware of the value veterans can add will increase employment opportunities for veterans.

The Program comprises a range of initiatives to support veterans' transition into the civilian workforce.

Raising awareness

  • The Prime Minister’s National Veterans’ Employment Awards recognise organisations that employ and support veterans and their partners to transition to the civilian workforce and veterans making a significant contribution as employees or entrepreneurs. Find out more here.
  • The Veterans' Employment Commitment provides organisations with the opportunity to make a public commitment to support greater employment opportunities for veterans and to recognise the skills, values and experience that veterans bring. Signing the Veterans' Employment Commitment commits each organisation to seek to provide employment opportunities and support veteran employees. Sign the Veterans’ Employment Commitment here.
