This year’s Prime Minister's National Veteran Employment Awards sponsors are contributing to the growth and celebration of our community through their support of the Awards.

Smart™ is a 2025 gold sponsor and proudly supporting the Champion of Veteran Employment category.

Smart is a salary packaging and novated leasing provider that partners with more than 4000 organisations, including Commonwealth and State Governments, major health care groups and other public benevolent institutions. Their partnership with the Department of Defence spans 25 years and has supported over 50,000 Defence members with salary packaging arrangements.

Recognised as a Veteran Employment Supporter on the Veteran Employment CommitmentSmart is building a workplace where veterans feel valued from the start and is recognised. Their supportive veteran employment practices include:

  • Defence-leave to support active and former service members

  • encouraging veteran applicants in their job advertisements

  • self-identification of veteran status during onboarding to capture more meaningful insights

  • specific veteran employment metrics to measure impact and report on veteran engagement with greater accuracy.

Smart has developed a Veteran Employment Framework to further guide how they attract, support, and grow veteran talent across the organisation. The framework sets clear measures of success and strengthens their role as a supportive employer for Australia’s veteran community.

Smart serves clients across all sectors, employing 2.5 million Australians. They work alongside their people teams to learn, test, and share practical changes. By working across their network, they aim to lift veteran recruitment and retention throughout Australia.

Smart’s Chief Executive Officer Scott Wharton said, ‘Our presence on base and daily conversations with Defence members and their families give us a deep understanding of their unique needs and aspirations.

We recognise the exceptional skills and experience that veterans bring to the workforce - and we’re committed to supporting their successful transition into civilian employment.

By investing in tailored support and meaningful opportunities, we help unlock the full potential of Australia’s veteran community.’
