What is it?

ADF skills, knowledge and experience can be formally recognised through a process called recognition of prior learning (RPL).

All competencies and qualifications provided are based on national legislated standards regulated by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA) and the Australian Qualifications Framework and are applicable across industry sectors.

ADF members can have their skills recognised through a national qualification as part of their journey to the civilian workforce.

Who does it?

ADF Transition and Civil Recognition provides transitioning ADF members the opportunity to have skills recognised through RPL, and accredited where possible.

RPL assessments include micro-credentialing of ADF training, and an advanced standing program which maps ADF unaccredited courses to civilian University programs to provide agreed credit transfers with partnered universities. RPL is at no cost to transitioning ADF members.

For more information on RPL through the Defence registered Training Organisation (RTO), visit the ADF Transition and Civil Recognition Project website.

RPL is also offered by other Registered Training Organisations. There may be a fee if you are seeking RPL through these organisations.

If you wish to pursue further education, RPL may also apply to specific courses or entry programs offered by universities and TAFEs. Your training organisation or university can advise you on the RPL options available and how to apply.
