Boeing Australia represents the broadest portfolio of products and services in the Australian aerospace industry. With nearly 5000 employees spanning Australia, New Zealand and South Pacific and a heritage stretching back 99 years, Boeing plays an integral role in the region’s aerospace and defence industry.
They are a leader in advanced manufacturing for commercial airplane components, the development and production of Collaborative Combat Aircraft, communications systems, sustainment, training and services, research and development, and uncrewed systems. Boeing is recognised as a Veteran Employer of Choice via the Veteran Employment Commitment.
Boeing Veteran Engagement Team (BVET AUST), established in 2019, is a volunteer-led, veteran-driven internal network designed to embed veteran support into the very fabric of their organisational culture. Its leadership reflects the lived experience of the community, comprising representatives from the Navy, Army, and Air Force, alongside veteran spouses and reservists.
The initiative directly aligns with the Veteran Employment Commitment through three strategic pillars:
-
Capability-Based Recruitment
-
Integrated Retention & Development
-
Community & Ecosystem Connection
Through this holistic approach, BVET AUST serves as a bridge between military service and corporate excellence, ensuring that the unique capabilities of veterans are recognised, utilised, and sustained.
The BVET AUST initiative has delivered profound, measurable outcomes, transitioning Boeing Australia from a participant in veteran employment to a leader in the field. The initiative has directly supported a significant and growing veteran presence within their organisation. Currently, BVET AUST directly supports more than over 1000 veterans and ADF reservists which makes up 30% of the workforce across Boeing Australia. This scale demonstrates that their commitment is not merely symbolic but a core component of their human capital strategy.
By providing structured onboarding and mentorship, they have seen improved retention rates among veteran hires. The "veteran-to-veteran" support model creates a sense of belonging that mitigates the isolation often felt during civilian transitions.
The benefits extend beyond their workforce. By sharing veteran success stories and participating in national forums, they contribute to a culture of visibility and respect.
