Darren Nolan joined the Royal Australian Airforce on 20 February 1996 and was discharged on 30 April 2006. During that period, he was posted to No 501 wing RAAF Base Amberley QLD, No 723 sqn HMAS Albatross Nowra NSW and No 3 sqn RAAF Base Williamtown Newcastle NSW.

In August 1999, he was attached to 6sqn (82 wing) for Operation WARDEN in East Timor deployed to RAAF Base Tindal. 
During his service he received a Commendation for outstanding contribution in effective management from the Commanding Officer of 723 sqn.

Since 2012, Darren has worked for Ventia Australia Pty Ltd as a Situational Incident Response officer. He attained the role of Supervisor during this time and is now a member of an elite first responder team as a senior Motorcycle Traffic Response Unit (MTRU) rider.

Trained in road trauma first aid, he plays an active role in road safety responding to thousands of traffic incidents per year providing him an opportunity to demonstrate his resilience and critical incident management skills.

Under his leadership and capacity development skills, the MTRU team has won national and international awards for best professional service, innovation and risk management.

He has attracted numerous road user written testimonials highlighting his skills and attributes in customer care and safety and has been described as a ‘Hero of the road’.
