Veterans leave an organisation built around service, responsibility and teamwork, then enter workplaces that value their clearance or contacts more than their judgement. Eolas employs its client-facing consultants permanently and full-time, providing meaningful careers rather than a succession of placements. It also creates part-time and casual work where appropriate, including employing a veteran’s child while they undertake university study.
Patrick O’Neill founded Eolas Solutions in Canberra in April 2024. It began with Patrick and a laptop. Eolas now employs a team including nine veterans, seven are from the Australian Defence Force, one from the Royal Air Force and one from the Norwegian Armed Forces. Eolas also employs partners and children of veterans.
Veteran employment at Eolas starts with the people leading it. The founder and owner, and the company’s three directors are veterans. Three of the four continue to serve in the ADF Reserve. The people making Eolas’ employment decisions therefore understand both the value veterans bring and the practical demands of continuing service.
Eolas looks beyond rank, posting and clearance to the judgement developed through service. They help people recognise how experience in command, planning, logistics, training or operations can contribute to a civilian role, then support them towards work where it is genuinely useful.
They believe veteran employment should provide more than a job. Veterans should be able to understand the company they are joining, find community within and beyond it, and see how their career can develop. That openness and community help Eolas attract and retain people, provide continuity to clients and continue creating opportunities for veterans into the future.
