RSL Queensland’s mission is to provide care, commemoration and camaraderie to enable veterans and their families to live with dignity and respect. They have supported the veteran and Defence community since 1916, providing veterans and their families with active support, recognition and mateship. Their services are driven by ongoing research and tailored to the specific needs of veterans throughout their Defence journey, from the point of enlistment to their transition from the military and life after service. RSL Queensland also partners with groups and organisations that offer specialist expertise to aid an individual’s physical and emotional recovery.
Their 2030 Strategy outlines the intent to provide increased support to more veterans and their families, promote wider recognition of service people’s legacy, and offer a sense of belonging and purpose to all in the veteran community. Available across Queensland and nationally, RSL Queensland’s comprehensive services include employment, education and skills support, emergency financial and homelessness assistance, DVA advocacy support, and peer-led programs. Additionally, RSL Queensland – in partnership with Gallipoli Medical Research (GMR) – offers two evidence-based online learning programs to support veterans during and after service. For veterans transitioning from Defence, Go Beyond offers tailored support, focusing on five key areas to ease adjustment and reintegration to civilian life. The RSL Be:Well program uses the latest health information and tools to assist veterans in improving their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
RSL Queensland’s (RSLQ) Vocational Program (VP) team, which includes the RSL Employment Program and Career Development Program Team, is a leading force in championing veteran and veteran family employment across Australia. The team provides practical, tailored support that empowers veterans and their families to find meaningful, sustainable careers after service. The team delivers a holistic service model that includes career coaching, resume support, interview preparation, job-matching services, training pathways and access to an extensive national employer network. Their person-centred approach ensures every person feels seen, heard and supported whether they are stepping into civilian employment for the first time or re-entering the workforce after a career break.
Since its inception, the team have helped thousands of veterans and veteran partners secure roles across a range of industries ensuring that their skills, values and experience are recognised and embraced by employers. The team works actively with businesses to improve veteran employment literacy, build tailored recruitment strategies and promote veteran talent pipelines. In 2024, as demand for veteran support services continued to grow, RSL Queensland reaffirmed its commitment to delivering high-quality, impactful services for veterans and their families. As part of this commitment, they proactively pursued accreditation of our Employment and DVA Advocacy Programs under the QIC Health and Community Services Standards. RSL Queensland is recognised as a Veteran Employment Supporter via the Veteran Employment Commitment.
