Savannaha Wells started her journey as a full-time nursing student at the University of Canberra in 2015, juggling 4 casual jobs. Her partner was posted to HMAS Cerberus, requiring them to live separately for 1.5 years. When her partner was posted to Perth as a Marine Technician, Savannaha had to withdraw from university to support their household needs.
Savannaha began working in Disability Support, completing a Cert III in Individual Supports. In the first 12 months in the role, she was promoted to Lead Disability Support Worker. Over the next few years, she was promoted to manager for their SLES Program and was nominated for 11 awards, including winning the ‘working as one’ award.
In 2022, her husband was posted to HMAS Albatross. With the move to the Shoalhaven, Savannha focused on upskilling and finding meaningful employment.
In 2023, she joined RSL LifeCare as a Veteran Support Coordinator at the Shoalhaven Veteran and Family Hub. In 2024, she was promoted to the role of Hub Manager and has continued in that position since, further developing the Hub’s service offering, building a dynamic team and expanding community events. In her time as Hub Manager, foot traffic to the Hub has continued to grow, as has the number, and variety, of activities available to the local veteran community. Savannaha has taken her experience as a Defence partner, and the challenges associated with isolation and moving around regularly, into how her and her team support the local community, offering empathy and support.
