Mr Davor Strbac, Suncorp Group

Davor was born in the former Yugoslavia. Davor arrived in Australia in his teen years as a refugee following the 1990’s civil war. In 2005 Davor joined the Australian Army performing the role of a Signaller to give back to the country which had given his family so much.

On discharging from the Army due to complex medical issues, Davor struggled to make a successful transition to the civilian workforce. It was Davor’s wife, then a Suncorp employee, who saw a Security Officer position advertised and insisted he apply. Despite his misgivings, Davor was successful in his interview and joined the Suncorp Group in 2014 in an entry level role as a Security Officer in the Physical Security team. His ability to bring the best out of his Security Operations Centre team and his performance under pressure saw Davor gain promotions throughout the years to now lead the Physical Security capability for the Suncorp Group.

Key issues he has been required to manage included Suncorp’s response to security incidents such as robberies of ATMs and bank branches, responding to death threats and dealing with fixated individuals and providing strategic security advice in the design and delivery of Suncorp’s buildings. As a testament to his ability, Davor represents Suncorp at the Australian Banking Association’s Security Forum, attended by representatives of all major banks and the key policy forum for Physical Security for the Financial Services industry.

Davor was a founding member of Suncorp’s Veterans, Reserves and Defence Families advocacy group. His willingness to give back and support those with links to the defence community is commendable. He and his Physical Security team have been actively involved in Legacy fundraising activities, employee expos and other events raising the profile of veterans and their families. His passion and contribution saw him appointed as Vice Chair in 2019 and he regularly represents his group in Suncorp Diversity and Inclusions forums.
